Troops of Sector 2, Operation Hadin Kai, have foiled an alleged attempt by Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists to extort money from residents in parts of Yobe State, recovering weapons, ammunition and a vehicle used by the suspects.
The operation followed intelligence reports that suspected insurgents were travelling in two Volkswagen Golf cars and on motorcycles to collect illegal levies from communities within the state.
Acting on the intelligence, troops from the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Bukarti, supported by the 27 Task Force Brigade, launched a fighting patrol along the Paya Kafiya axis on July 19.
During the operation, the troops intercepted the suspects, leading to a gun battle. One of the Volkswagen Golf vehicles used by the terrorists was disabled, while its driver was killed.

Military authorities said four other suspected terrorists escaped into nearby bushes with gunshot wounds, abandoning the damaged vehicle at the scene.
Following the encounter, troops conducted exploitation operations along the Paya Kafiya–Garin Gada route, where they recovered the abandoned vehicle and several items believed to have been used by the insurgents.
Items recovered included 25 rounds of belted PKT ammunition, a loaded AK-47 magazine, 15 spent PKT ammunition links, assorted medications, nicotine products and mechanical tools.
The Acting Military Information Officer of Operation Hadin Kai, Capt. Mohammed Goni, said the operation was part of ongoing military efforts to disrupt terrorist logistics, dismantle supply networks and cut off funding sources sustaining insurgent activities across the North-East.
