Troops of the 26 Task Force Brigade Garrison under Operation HADIN KAI have successfully uncovered and disposed of an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) planted by suspected terrorists in the Sambisa Forest, Borno State.
The development was disclosed by security analyst Zagazola Makama via a post on X, noting that the device was discovered around 9:50 a.m. on July 15 during a routine fighting patrol in the Dagari axis of the forest, located within Bama Local Government Area.
According to the report, the IED had been strategically buried in a farming area, allegedly intended to target advancing troops as well as unsuspecting civilians, particularly farmers returning to resume agricultural activities.
Upon detection, the troops swiftly secured the area and carried out a controlled disposal of the explosive in line with standard Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) procedures. The operation was executed without any casualties or damage.

Makama stated that the exercise forms part of ongoing clearance operations and Counter-Improvised Explosive Device (C-IED) measures being intensified under Operation HADIN KAI.
These efforts are aimed at ensuring that previously affected communities and farmlands are safe for civilian resettlement and economic activities.
He further emphasized that troops have sustained aggressive patrols and route clearance missions across the North-East region to identify and neutralise hidden explosive threats planted by insurgents.
Security operations in the region remain ongoing as military forces continue to work towards restoring normalcy and safeguarding lives and property.
