
Operatives of the Anambra State Police Command have rescued an unidentified middle-aged man who was discovered unconscious along a roadside in Awka, the state capital.
According to a statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the incident occurred on July 15, 2026, during a routine midday patrol by officers attached to the B Division. The victim was found lying along Oby Okoli Avenue, near the Nnamdi Azikiwe University Temporary Site.
Police reports indicate that the man showed no visible signs of injury or struggle, suggesting no immediate evidence of violence. He was promptly evacuated to the Police Hospital in Awka, where he is currently receiving medical attention.
A search conducted on the victim did not yield any form of identification or personal belongings that could help trace his identity or contact his relatives.

Preliminary findings suggest that the man may have been under the influence of hard drugs at the time he was found, although investigations are still ongoing.
The Police Command reiterated that the incident underscores the growing dangers associated with substance abuse and drug addiction.
Authorities also reaffirmed their commitment to ongoing campaigns against cultism and other social vices through public awareness and collaboration with relevant stakeholders.
Efforts are currently underway to identify the victim and locate his family members.
