Troops of Sector 1 under Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) have destroyed suspected terrorist hideouts and arrested five individuals during a coordinated clearance operation in Ukum Local Government Area of Benue State.
The operation, which took place around 11:00 a.m. on August 1, targeted identified enclaves in Atombagen, Chito, Tse Kighr, Tse Anaka, and Sabongida Leke.
According to security sources, the mission was part of ongoing efforts to dismantle criminal networks and restore security across affected communities in the state.
Although suspected members of the armed groups fled the scene before troops arrived, five individuals were apprehended at Sabongida Leke for alleged involvement in criminal activities within the area.

Military sources confirmed that several structures within the hideouts were destroyed, including facilities believed to serve as operational bases and logistics hubs for the criminal elements.
“The operation was aimed at denying armed groups freedom of movement and dismantling their operational infrastructure,” a security source disclosed.
The arrested suspects are expected to undergo further investigation as security agencies intensify efforts to curb the activities of armed groups across the Benue axis.
Authorities noted that the operation underscores the military’s commitment to sustaining clearance missions and preventing the re-establishment of criminal strongholds in the region.
