The Nigerian Navy has discovered approximately 68,175 litres of suspected stolen crude oil at two separate locations in Ogbogolo Community, Ahoada West Local Government Area of Rivers State.
The discoveries were made during separate operations conducted on October 24 and November 7, 2026, by personnel of the Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) SOROH under Operation DELTA SENTINEL.
The Navy’s spokesperson, Captain Abiodun Folorusho, disclosed that the operations followed credible intelligence reports about illegal petroleum storage and refining activities within the Orashi Forest and neighbouring areas.
He explained that during the October 24 operation, naval personnel discovered two crude oil storage sites containing four dugout pits, 29 sacks and a 25-litre keg, with an estimated 8,675 litres of suspected crude oil.

In a subsequent operation on November 7, the team uncovered two illegal refining sites containing two large and 36 smaller dugout pits, alongside other storage facilities holding an estimated 59,500 litres of suspected stolen crude oil.
The Navy spokesperson stated that the recovered petroleum products and associated items were handled in line with established procedures.
He noted that the operations formed part of the Navy’s ongoing efforts to dismantle illegal refining facilities, disrupt crude oil theft networks and prevent economic saboteurs from exploiting Nigeria’s natural resources.
Folorusho reaffirmed the Navy’s commitment to sustaining intelligence-led operations in collaboration with relevant stakeholders to protect critical oil and gas infrastructure and safeguard the nation’s economic interests.
