At least three persons have been confirmed dead and two others injured following fresh attacks by suspected armed herders in Benue State.
The incidents occurred in Elulu and Agadagba communities, located in Ohimini Local Government Area, between Friday and Saturday night.
According to local sources, the attackers first invaded Elulu community on Friday, where one person was killed and another individual was attacked, with his motorcycle reportedly taken by the assailants.
A resident of Agadagba, identified as Ameh, disclosed that the same group of armed herders later stormed his community on Saturday night in an attempt to rustle cattle. Youths in the area reportedly resisted the attack, leading to a confrontation.
“During the clash, the attackers, who were heavily armed, opened fire on the youths. Two people were killed in the process,” Ameh said.
Confirming the incidents, the Chairman of Ohimini Local Government Area, Gabriel Adole, stated that the attacks were carried out in succession across both communities.
He explained that after the initial assault in Elulu, the attackers attempted to rustle cattle in Agadagba but were repelled by residents.

However, they returned the following day and carried out another deadly attack, killing two people.
Adole further revealed that two individuals sustained injuries during the attacks and are currently receiving treatment at a medical facility.
Security personnel, including local vigilantes and police operatives, have since been deployed to the affected areas to restore order and prevent further violence. Authorities say calm is gradually returning to the communities.
The recent attacks are part of a troubling pattern of violence in Ohimini LGA, which has witnessed repeated clashes in recent weeks.
Some observers have linked the escalation to the killing of the state chairman of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria, Risku Mohammed, in June 2026.
Efforts to reach the Benue State Police Command for additional comments were unsuccessful as of the time of filing this report.
Residents have called for increased security presence and urgent intervention to curb the rising insecurity in the region.
