Heavy flooding caused by prolonged rainfall on Tuesday disrupted movement and commercial activities along the Tomline section of Lagos Road in Edo State.
The downpour, which started around midday, submerged parts of the busy road in Benin City, leading to severe traffic congestion. Motorists were forced to use only one lane of the four-lane road connecting the Uselu and University of Benin areas.
Some drivers reportedly turned back to avoid damage to their vehicles, while commercial bus operators struggled through the flooded route to continue their daily activities.
Business activities in the area were also affected as several shop owners shut their premises and watched helplessly as floodwaters covered the road.

A trader identified simply as John described the recurring flooding as a major challenge for businesses and residents in the area. He said many business owners would prefer to relocate, but harsh economic conditions had made that difficult.
John appealed to Governor Monday Okpebholo to extend ongoing road rehabilitation projects to the affected area.
According to him, the flooding has become a yearly occurrence that continues to hurt businesses operating along the road.
A commercial bus driver, Rueben Osas, also called on the state government to repair the road and improve drainage to prevent future flooding.
He said transport operators had no option but to continue working despite the risks posed by the floodwaters.
