The Anambra State Police Command has thwarted a suspected kidnap attempt, rescued a victim, and arrested a 66-year-old man believed to be a member of a criminal syndicate involved in fraudulent activities across Anambra and Enugu states.
The suspect, identified as Kenneth Nnaji, was apprehended by operatives of the Rapid Response Squad in Awkuzu during an operation conducted on July 11. According to the police, preliminary investigations revealed that he belongs to a three-man gang that allegedly deceives unsuspecting members of the public through carefully planned scams.
Police spokesperson Tochukwu Ikenga said the suspect confessed to participating in the group’s operations and provided investigators with information that could help track down the remaining members, who are currently on the run.

Investigators said the syndicate allegedly disguises itself in branded overalls and caps while posing as representatives of reputable companies. The suspects reportedly approach victims under the pretext of collecting product samples before directing them to another location with promises of larger quantities of goods at discounted prices. Victims are then allegedly defrauded during the transaction.
The police identified the fleeing suspects as Christopher, Jacob Musa, and Joseph, while efforts are ongoing to locate and arrest them.
Commissioner of Police Ikioye Orutugu urged residents to remain vigilant and verify the identities of individuals claiming to represent companies before entering into business transactions.
He also directed investigators to intensify efforts to arrest all fleeing suspects, recover proceeds from the alleged fraud, and ensure everyone found culpable is prosecuted in accordance with the law.
Police said the 66-year-old suspect will be charged to court after investigations are concluded.
