The Edo State Police Command has expressed concern over the increasing cases of Sexual and Gender-Based Violence, SGBV, across the state, describing the trend as disturbing and unacceptable.
Speaking during a press briefing in Benin City on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, the Commissioner of Police, Monday Agbonika, disclosed that the command arrested 23 suspects linked to rape, defilement, and other SGBV offences within the last two months.
“This trend is painful, unacceptable and deeply concerning. Violence is never a solution to any disagreement or desire. Rather, it destroys lives, families and communities,” Agbonika said.
