
Operatives of the Edo State Police Command have rescued 13 passengers of a Young Shall Grow Motors bus who were abducted by gunmen while travelling from Akwa Ibom State to Lagos.
The passengers were reportedly kidnapped on May 9, 2026, along the Benin-Sapele Road near Ologbo in Edo State.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Eno Ikoedem, the rescue operation involved coordinated bush-combing efforts, aerial surveillance, drone deployment and intelligence-led policing.
Police said the kidnappers shot a female passenger during the attack before taking the victims into the bush.
Five passengers, including two adults and three children, were initially rescued after security operatives launched a search operation in the area.

The following day, officers reportedly engaged the kidnappers in a gun battle and rescued two more victims.
Authorities later confirmed that the remaining six abducted passengers were also rescued unharmed.
The Commissioner of Police in Edo State, Monday Agbonika, praised the operatives for their bravery and assured residents that efforts were ongoing to arrest the kidnappers.
Reports indicated that the abductors had demanded N30 million ransom from each victim’s family before the rescue operation succeeded.
