The immediate past Students’ Union Government (SUG) President of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), James Adio, has regained his freedom following days in detention after being remanded by a Magistrate Court in Ekiti State.
The development was confirmed on Friday by the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) President, Akinteye Babatunde, who described the release as a triumph for justice and collective advocacy.
According to Babatunde, he personally spoke with Adio after his release and confirmed that the former student leader was in good condition and high spirits.
He commended the leadership of the NANS Joint Campus Committee (JCC) in Ekiti State for their steadfast commitment throughout the period of Adio’s detention, noting that their actions reflected dedication to student welfare and justice.

The NANS President also acknowledged the efforts of the association’s National Head of Administration, praising their proactive role and persistence in ensuring a positive outcome.
Adio’s remand had earlier sparked outrage among student bodies, with NANS alleging that he was unjustly detained despite being the complainant in the case.
The association maintained that no criminal charges were filed against him and criticized the handling of the matter by relevant authorities.
In response, NANS had mobilized its members for peaceful protests across key judicial institutions in Ekiti State, demanding his immediate release.
