
A security guard was reportedly killed while another sustained injuries after a machete-wielding man attacked security personnel at a cinema in Lekki, Lagos State.
The incident occurred on Friday night, August 28, 2026, triggering panic among cinema patrons and workers at the facility.
According to reports, the suspect, who was allegedly armed with a machete and a knife, attempted to gain entry into the cinema but was stopped by security personnel.
Eyewitnesses said the situation became violent after the man was prevented from entering the premises, as he allegedly attacked the security guards.
The spokesperson for the Lagos State Police Command, SP Adebisi Abimbola, confirmed the incident on Saturday, saying one of the security guards was stabbed to death while another security personnel was injured.
She added that the suspect was subsequently mobbed and died in the process.

“Two people have been confirmed dead,” the police spokesperson said.
The identities of the deceased had yet to be released as of the time of filing this report.
Police said the suspect appeared to be destitute and was also suspected to have been under the influence of drugs during the incident.
The Chief Security Officer of the cinema has reportedly been taken into custody as part of the investigation.
The police command is also working to obtain and review the cinema’s closed-circuit television footage to establish the sequence of events and determine whether other individuals were involved.
The injured security personnel’s current condition was not immediately disclosed.
The police have commenced an investigation into the incident.
