The Delta State Police Command has arrested seven suspected cultists during a raid on a criminal hideout in Issele-Uku, recovering a double-barrel gun, live ammunition and other dangerous items.
The operation was carried out on July 27, 2026, by operatives of the Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit following credible intelligence. The suspects were identified as Promise Esenjor, Wisdom Victor, James Wisdom, Chinedu Munonye, Onyemakonor Collins, Unah Oluchi and Azomani Favour.
Police spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe, said preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects allegedly confessed to being members of the Maphite Confraternity.
According to the police, officers recovered one double-barrel gun, seven live cartridges, a cutlass, a Maphite cult beret, seven Android phones and other incriminating items from the hideout.

In a separate operation on the same day, operatives attached to the Abraka Division foiled a planned gathering of suspected criminals along Omono Road in Abraka. While several suspects fled on sighting the police, one suspect, identified as Wale Morakinyo, was arrested.
A search of the suspect’s bag led to the recovery of two locally fabricated pistols and four live cartridges. Police said the suspect remains in custody, while efforts are ongoing to arrest the fleeing suspects.
The Commissioner of Police in Delta State, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to intelligence-led operations aimed at combating cultism and other violent crimes. He also urged residents to continue providing credible and timely information to support security agencies in maintaining peace and safety across the state.
