The Enugu State Police Command has arrested 14 suspected cultists in separate intelligence-led operations across the state, recovering a pump-action gun, a locally fabricated pistol, three live cartridges, and other incriminating items.
The command’s spokesperson, Daniel Ndukwe, disclosed on Wednesday that the operations were part of ongoing efforts to clamp down on cultism and other violent crimes in the state.
According to him, operatives of the Anti-Cultism Sub-Unit attached to the Violent Crime Response Unit recovered a locally made single-barrel pistol hidden in a bush at Eha-Amufu in Isi-Uzo Local Government Area after a suspect, Nwodo Peters Chinweokwu, popularly known as “Sir-P” or “Biggy,” confessed to concealing the weapon.
Chinweokwu was earlier arrested alongside seven other suspects identified as Nnaji Emmanuel, Iroegbu Joshua, Nwafor Miracle, Ogbonna Moses Osinachi, Oha Chidiebere Francis, Udebuani Chukwuma, and Elochukwu Oko, also known as “Benson.”
In a separate operation carried out around 2 a.m. on the same day, police operatives acting on information obtained from another suspect, Izuchukwu Obieze, alias “Small,” arrested five additional suspects in Ezeagu Local Government Area.
Those arrested were identified as Oscar Ebuka, Eze Chimaobi Godson, also known as “Torpedo,” Ukeje Kingsley, Tochukwu Chilo, alias “Boss Me,” and Nnamezie Amechi, popularly called “Obodobuigwe.”

The operation also led to the recovery of a pump-action gun loaded with three live cartridges.
Ndukwe said investigations were ongoing, adding that the suspects were providing useful information to help security operatives track down other fleeing members of the group and recover more weapons.
He stated that all 14 suspects would be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
The Commissioner of Police in Enugu State, Mamman Bitrus Giwa, commended the operatives for the successful operations and reaffirmed the command’s determination to rid the state of cultism, armed robbery, and other violent crimes.
He also urged residents to remain vigilant and continue providing credible information to assist the police in fighting crime.
