The Delta State Police Command has arrested a 28-year-old suspected cultist who had been on its wanted list over an alleged shooting incident, recovering four locally made firearms during the operation.
The suspect, identified as Oghenebuba Mamatime, was apprehended by operatives of the Jesse Division in collaboration with community youths in Jesse, Ethiope West Local Government Area of Delta State.
Police spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe, said the arrest followed a complaint from a resident who alleged that he was shot by the suspect during a dispute in Jesse Town.
According to the police, investigations revealed that the suspect is allegedly a member of the Eiye confraternity. Preliminary findings indicated that the victim had reportedly decided to leave the cult group, a move that allegedly led to an argument before the shooting occurred.
Edafe disclosed that officers recovered three locally made pistols and one locally made single-barrel gun from the suspect during his arrest.

He added that the suspect remains in police custody while detectives continue investigations into the case and other alleged criminal activities linked to him.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police in Delta State, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, commended the collaboration between officers of the Jesse Division and community youths, describing it as a significant step in the fight against cultism.
The police commissioner urged residents to sustain the partnership with security agencies in tackling crimes such as cultism, kidnapping and drug abuse. He also advised young people to stay away from cult-related activities and other forms of criminality.
