The family of Ibrahim Mbaya, a 25-year-old graduate of the University of Jos (UNIJOS), is set to lay him to rest today following his tragic death in a mob attack in Plateau State.
According to a family member, preparations have been finalized to transport his remains to his hometown in Hawul Local Government Area of Borno State, where he will be buried.
Speaking on behalf of the family, his younger brother described Ibrahim’s death as a devastating loss, noting that their parents are struggling to cope with the shock. As the first child and only son, Ibrahim was seen as a beacon of hope with great expectations placed on him.
“He had big dreams and aspirations that have now been cut short. It’s a painful reality for all of us, especially our parents,” he said.
Ibrahim was known as a vibrant young man—a model, dancer, and budding entrepreneur with ambitions of owning a fashion brand and a restaurant. His life, however, was abruptly ended under tragic circumstances.
Reports indicate that the incident occurred in an off-campus residence in Jos after Ibrahim attended a social gathering. He reportedly spent the night at a friend’s apartment, but the following morning, he was accused of stealing a missing mobile phone.

Although he initially left the premises, he later returned to address the accusation. Upon his return, he was allegedly confronted by a group of youths who subjected him to prolonged physical assault in an attempt to force a confession.
Eyewitness accounts suggest he was beaten for hours before losing consciousness. A medical professional later confirmed him dead.
Security authorities have since arrested three suspects in connection with the incident, and investigations are ongoing.
The bereaved family has called on law enforcement agencies to ensure that all those responsible are brought to justice, emphasizing that accountability is the only solace they can hope for in the wake of such a heartbreaking loss.
“This was a brutal and inhumane act. No one deserves to die in such a manner. While nothing can bring him back, justice must be served,” the family stated.
The tragic killing has sparked renewed concerns about mob justice and the need for greater awareness, restraint, and respect for due process in Nigerian society.
