The Nigeria Police Force has cautioned churchgoers against publicly disclosing personal achievements and sensitive information during church testimonies, following the foiling of an alleged kidnapping plot targeting a female cleric in Abuja.
According to reports, four church members were arrested over an alleged plan to kidnap Prophetess Elizabeth, who was reportedly targeted after sharing a testimony about her achievements.
The Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the Intelligence Response Team, Adamu Muazu, issued the warning on Thursday while presenting the suspects to the public. He disclosed that the planned abduction was allegedly scheduled to take place after an evening church service.
Muazu warned worshippers against assuming that everyone within a religious congregation had good intentions, stressing that personal information shared publicly could expose individuals to security risks.
He also urged church leaders, particularly those operating in isolated locations, to strengthen security measures and protect members attending evening services.

The police officer advised churches holding late-night services to pay closer attention to the safety of access roads, entrances and exits, as well as the security of worshippers travelling home after services.
He expressed concern that some of the suspects allegedly had close ties to the intended victim and the church leadership. According to him, one suspect was reportedly the cleric’s driver, while another served as a bodyguard to the church’s head pastor.
The police warning highlights growing concerns about the potential misuse of personal information and the need for increased vigilance, even within trusted social and religious circles.
Church leaders and worshippers have been encouraged to remain security-conscious, exercise discretion when sharing personal achievements and take necessary precautions to reduce the risk of criminal attacks.
