
The Imo State Police Command has arrested a traffic warden and two personnel of the State Civil Guard Corps following a viral video allegedly showing them harassing and extorting a motorist in Owerri.
The incident reportedly occurred on October 8, 2026, when the operatives allegedly confronted the motorist over the absence of a driver’s licence.
The arrested individuals were identified as Inspector Chinewe Ejiogu, attached to the Shell Camp Divisional Police Headquarters, and two Civil Guard personnel, Kelechi Nzediagwu and Onyedikachi Chibuike.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer in Imo State, Henry Okoye, the three suspects are currently being detained at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) pending investigation.

The Commissioner of Police, Audu Garba Bosso, has directed the Command’s Complaint Response Unit to investigate the incident. The affected motorist has also been urged to report to the unit and provide relevant information to support the investigation.
The police condemned the alleged conduct, stressing that no traffic violation justifies extortion, harassment or abuse of office.
The command further assured residents that appropriate disciplinary action would be taken following the conclusion of the investigation and encouraged members of the public to report cases of police misconduct through the appropriate channels.
