Operatives of the Akwa Ibom State Police Command have arrested a 23-year-old man, Emmanuel Etim, for allegedly stealing and attempting to sell an industrial block moulding machine vibrator valued at over ₦2 million.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, disclosed in a statement issued in Uyo on Thursday that the suspect was apprehended while trying to dispose of the stolen equipment.
According to the police, the machine was taken from a project site at the Ikot Ekpene International Market along Calabar–Itu Road. Following a coordinated investigation, detectives tracked down and arrested the suspect, successfully recovering the stolen item.
Efforts are currently underway to apprehend other members of the suspected criminal network who remain at large.
In a related development, the police also arrested a 46-year-old man, Nsidibe Benson, for allegedly vandalising property belonging to Akwa Ibom State Polytechnic in Ikot Osurua.

The arrest followed a distress call from a concerned resident on July 19, 2026. Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect specialised in vandalising and stealing aluminium window frames, louvres, electrical wires, and cables.
Recovered items from the suspect include cut-to-size aluminium frames and electrical cables. He reportedly confessed during interrogation, while investigations continue to track down other accomplices.
The Commissioner of Police, Baba Mohammed Azare, commended members of the public for their vigilance and timely information, noting that such cooperation plays a vital role in tackling crime.
He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to protecting public infrastructure and urged residents to remain security-conscious and report any suspicious activities promptly.
