A youth leader in Plateau State has been reportedly shot by suspected terrorists just hours after publicly condemning a deadly attack in his community.
Pam Fom, President of the Dorowa Babuje Youth Council in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area, was ambushed on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, by gunmen believed to be Fulani militias. The attack occurred barely a day after he granted an interview denouncing the killing of two youths in his community.
According to conflict journalist Masara Kim Usman, who disclosed the incident via his Facebook page, Fom was targeted shortly after speaking out against the earlier violence. Usman revealed that he had interviewed the youth leader about the attack near Jos, where two young men were killed.
In the interview, Fom recounted how the attackers allegedly disguised themselves among grazing cattle before launching an assault on the victims, who were riding a motorcycle.

He further stated that the gunmen proceeded to a nearby mining site, opening fire on workers and leaving several injured.
Fom had called on the government and security agencies to urgently step in and provide protection for vulnerable communities, warning that continued inaction could force local youths to defend themselves.
Tragically, within hours of making those remarks, he was reportedly ambushed and shot by the same group he had condemned, leaving him critically injured.
Another community leader, Titus Badung, also confirmed the incident, describing it as a direct attack on a voice that had just spoken out against violence.
The incident has heightened concerns over escalating insecurity in Plateau State, with residents calling for swift intervention to prevent further bloodshed.
Authorities are yet to issue an official statement on the attack as of the time of this report.
