
The Gombe State Police Command has arrested no fewer than 44 suspected criminals following a series of coordinated raids on identified criminal hideouts across the Gombe metropolis.
The operation, carried out as part of intensified efforts to curb thuggery, drug abuse, and other violent crimes, targeted known black spots within the city.
Speaking during a press briefing, the Commissioner of Police, Umar Chuso, described the raid as a strategic move under the command’s proactive crime prevention framework.
He noted that the exercise aligns with broader efforts to strengthen security through intelligence-led and community-based policing.
According to the Commissioner, the major operation took place on the evening of July 7, 2026, at about 6:30 p.m., involving joint security teams who stormed multiple locations linked to criminal activities.

He disclosed that several of the suspects were found in possession of offensive weapons, Indian hemp, and other intoxicating substances at the time of their arrest.
Chuso further announced the launch of the Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices (POCACOV), an initiative designed to educate residents—particularly young people—on the dangers of cultism, substance abuse, and criminal behaviour.
He explained that the campaign would be extended to schools and local communities to promote responsible living and discourage involvement in crime.
The police boss assured residents that investigations are ongoing and that all suspects found culpable will be prosecuted accordingly.
He also urged members of the public to support security agencies by providing timely and credible information, emphasizing that community collaboration remains vital in the fight against crime.
