The Gombe State Police Command has apprehended eight suspected members of a criminal syndicate linked to armed robbery and cyber fraud activities across multiple communities in the state.
The arrests followed an investigation into a robbery incident that occurred on June 7, 2026, in Wuro Birji, Akko Local Government Area.
Victims, identified as Hassan Muhammad and Jibril Hassan, reported that armed assailants invaded their homes, wielding cutlasses and making away with their mobile phones.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, Buhari Abdullahi, the suspects allegedly exploited sensitive information obtained from the stolen devices to gain unauthorized access to the victims’ bank accounts.
The criminals reportedly withdrew ₦296,790 from one victim’s GTBank account and also secured a Quick Loan of ₦205,205, bringing the total financial loss to over ₦500,000.
Through coordinated intelligence gathering and technical tracking of the fraudulent transactions, law enforcement operatives traced one of the transactions to a Moniepoint account.
This breakthrough led to the arrest of the prime suspect, Mustapha Kabiru, also known as “Musty Bobo,” a 19-year-old ND II Computer Science student of the Federal Polytechnic, Kaltungo.

Further investigations revealed that the syndicate may be responsible for more than 13 similar incidents across Wuro Birji, Riyal, Bomala, and Jauro Jatau communities.
The Commissioner of Police, Umar Ahmed Chuso, commended the operatives for their diligence and reiterated the command’s commitment to combating both violent crime and cybercrime.
