
A tragic incident has marred celebrations following France’s victory over Morocco at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, as a 17-year-old girl lost her life in northern France.
The incident occurred in the town of Aulnoye-Aymeries, where thousands of football fans had gathered in the streets to celebrate France’s progression to the semi-finals after a 2-0 win against Morocco.
According to reports, the teenager had climbed onto the side of a moving lorry alongside other supporters during the celebrations.
She reportedly lost her balance and fell onto the road, where she was run over by the same vehicle.
Emergency responders arrived promptly and attempted to revive her, but she was pronounced dead at the scene shortly after midnight.
A police spokesperson confirmed the sequence of events, noting that the victim fell from the vehicle before the fatal impact occurred.

The driver of the lorry has been taken into custody and is expected to undergo alcohol and drug testing as part of an ongoing investigation into the incident.
