The Ogun State Police Command has launched an intensive manhunt for gunmen who abducted several individuals, believed to be students, from a private hostel in the Ipara area of the state.
The incident, which occurred on Wednesday night, targeted a student residence located along Paraga Road, Ipara, where students of Gateway ICT Polytechnic, Sapaade, reportedly live off-campus.
The attack has since sparked fear among residents and the student community, with varying reports circulating online about the number of victims.
In response, the Students’ Union Government (SUG) of the institution clarified that the incident did not take place within the school premises.
According to a statement jointly signed by SUG President, Timothy Akinpelu, and Public Relations Officer, Francis Mathew, the attackers invaded the hostel at about 7:45 p.m., firing gunshots during the operation.
However, no fatalities were recorded.
The union confirmed that some individuals were abducted but emphasized that the exact number of victims remains unverified.

It urged the public to disregard exaggerated reports capable of causing unnecessary panic.
While describing the incident as unfortunate, the SUG advised students to prioritize safety by choosing accommodation in well-secured and populated areas rather than isolated locations.
Confirming the attack, the Police Public Relations Officer, Babaseyi Oluseyi, stated that security operatives swiftly responded after receiving a distress call.
He noted that tactical teams and intelligence units have been deployed, with ongoing bush-combing operations aimed at rescuing the victims and apprehending the perpetrators.
“The command has activated coordinated operations to ensure the safe recovery of those abducted and bring the culprits to justice,” Oluseyi said, adding that investigations are still ongoing to determine the exact number of victims.
Efforts to reach the polytechnic’s spokesperson were unsuccessful at the time of filing this report.
This incident adds to growing security concerns in the area, following a similar case earlier in April when police successfully rescued abducted students in the Sapade axis.
