The Kebbi State Government has demanded a public apology from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) over allegations linking it to the demolition of a property near Azbir Hotel along Sani Abacha Bypass in Birnin Kebbi.
The government described the allegations as false, misleading and politically motivated, insisting that it had no involvement in the demolition.
The Commissioner for Information and Culture, Yakubu Ahmed-BK, made the position known during a press briefing in Birnin Kebbi on Monday, November 2, 2026.
He accused the opposition party of spreading unverified information to damage the image of Governor Nasir Idris’s administration ahead of the 2027 general elections.
According to the commissioner, the incident was a private land dispute between individuals and had been wrongly presented as a government action against property belonging to an opposition member.
He explained that a businessman, Umaru Mohammed Gulumbe, who claimed ownership of the disputed land, submitted documents, including a Certificate of Occupancy signed by former Governor Adamu Aliero.
Ahmed-BK said Gulumbe had reported the alleged trespass to the police and petitioned the Ministry of Lands and Housing.
He added that committees established to investigate the dispute examined the competing claims and confirmed ownership of the property in favour of Gulumbe.
The commissioner maintained that the state government neither ordered nor participated in the demolition, describing attempts to link the administration to the incident as misleading.
He also criticised the ADC for allegedly failing to withdraw its claims or apologise despite what he described as evidence clarifying the ownership dispute.
Ahmed-BK further accused opposition figures of making statements capable of creating divisions among residents of different parts of Kebbi State.
He urged political leaders to avoid comments that could promote mistrust and threaten peaceful coexistence.

The commissioner also called on residents to disregard unverified information and demand evidence before accepting serious allegations against public institutions.
He insisted that political discussions should focus on verifiable facts and government policies rather than speculation.
The Kebbi State Government subsequently demanded that the ADC withdraw its allegations, clarify its claims and issue an unreserved public apology.
Ahmed-BK warned that the government could consider legal action if the party failed to comply.
