Troops of Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS) have dismantled a suspected kidnappers’ camp in Edimogbo Forest, Igalamela/Odolu Local Government Area of Kogi State, recovering 1,000 rounds of ammunition, six motorcycles and other logistics.
The operation followed actionable intelligence received by troops of Sector 3 on October 2, 2026, concerning the activities of suspected kidnappers allegedly operating in the forest.
According to the Force Commander of Joint Task Force Operation Whirl Stroke, Major General Moses Gara, the troops mobilised to the area to disrupt the criminal activities.
However, as the soldiers approached the suspected hideout, the armed men reportedly opened fire after sighting them, apparently attempting to alert other criminal elements in the area.
The troops pursued the fleeing suspects into the forest but made no further contact with them.

Following the encounter, the military personnel destroyed the suspected camp to prevent the criminals from using it as a base for further attacks.
Items recovered during the mop-up operation included 1,000 rounds of 7.62mm x 54 ammunition, seven ammunition belts, six Daylong motorcycles, two shovels, a hand pump, a mobile phone, a Glo modem, petrol, clothing, shoes and other supplies.
Gara commended the troops for their efforts, noting that the operation had denied criminal elements a base of operations within the Joint Operations Area.
He also called on residents to continue providing security agencies with timely and credible intelligence to support ongoing efforts to tackle kidnapping and other criminal activities and restore lasting peace.
