The Sokoto State Government has sealed an office belonging to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) following a recent disturbance involving party supporters and suspected miscreants.
The Commissioner for Lands and Housing, Nasiru Dantsoho, announced the development on Monday, explaining that the decision was taken to prevent further disturbances and protect lives and property.
Dantsoho said the government reviewed documents relating to the building and discovered that it originally belonged to the defunct Savannah Bank.
He explained that the available records did not show any official transfer of ownership to another person or organisation.
According to him, the state government had written to the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC), which he described as the custodian of the property, requesting clarification on its current ownership.
However, he said the government was yet to receive a response from the corporation.
The commissioner stated that the building would remain sealed until the ownership issue was properly resolved.

He urged anyone claiming ownership of the property to submit relevant documents for verification, adding that the premises could be released to its rightful owner after proper documentation.
Dantsoho also warned that anyone attempting to forcefully enter the sealed building would face legal consequences, including prosecution.
The development comes amid growing political tension in Sokoto State following allegations of attacks involving ADC supporters and operatives of a state-owned security outfit.
