A major protest erupted on Tuesday after a student of D.S. Adegbenro ICT Polytechnic, Itori, was reportedly killed during a robbery attack, prompting students to block the Lagos–Abeokuta Expressway and causing severe traffic congestion.
The incident reportedly occurred overnight when suspected armed robbers attacked a student hostel in the Eruku area, killing a final-year student and critically injuring another.
Angered by the attack, students staged a demonstration along the busy highway, demanding improved security around the institution. The protest left hundreds of commuters and motorists stranded for hours.
In response to the tragedy, the polytechnic postponed examinations scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday. School authorities said the decision was taken to allow affected students time to recover emotionally and to honour the deceased.
According to a statement issued by the institution’s examination committee, academic activities will resume on Friday, while a new timetable for the postponed examinations will be announced later.

The Ogun State Police Command confirmed that officers had been deployed to the area to restore calm and maintain order. Police spokesperson DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi said authorities were monitoring the situation, adding that investigations into the circumstances surrounding the student’s death were ongoing.
The latest incident has renewed concerns over the safety of students in parts of Ogun State, where several institutions have experienced repeated attacks by armed robbers in recent years.
Security experts and school officials have continued to call for stronger security measures around campuses and student hostels to prevent further attacks and protect lives.
