
The Edo State Police Command has announced a statewide restriction of movement ahead of the upcoming local government elections, as part of measures to ensure a peaceful and credible electoral process.
According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, Eno Ikoedem, movement across Edo State will be restricted from 12:00 a.m. on Friday, July 10, to 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 11, 2026.
The command explained that the directive is part of a broader security strategy developed in collaboration with other agencies to maintain law and order, safeguard voters, and protect electoral officials as well as sensitive materials during the elections.
During the restriction period, all vehicular and human movement will be prohibited, except for personnel on essential duties.

These include officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), accredited election observers, media practitioners, security operatives, and emergency service providers.
Residents have been urged to comply fully with the directive, as security personnel will be deployed across all 18 local government areas of the state to enforce the order.
The police warned that anyone found violating the restriction or attempting to disrupt the electoral process will face legal consequences.
The Commissioner of Police, Monday Agbonika, reassured residents that adequate security arrangements have been put in place to guarantee a free, fair, and peaceful election. He also encouraged eligible voters to come out peacefully and exercise their civic rights in accordance with electoral guidelines.
