The Kano State Police Command has arrested two suspects in connection with a shooting at a wedding ceremony in Tudun Yola Quarters, Kano metropolis, which left one person dead and three others injured.
The incident occurred on Sunday, August 16, 2026, when a man identified as Rabi’u Mukthar, 34, allegedly opened fire on guests attending the wedding celebration.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna, the two suspects were arrested shortly after the incident, while a pump-action rifle was also recovered.

Haruna said Mukthar allegedly came out of his residence after being disturbed by loud music from the wedding venue and began shooting sporadically at the gathering.
During interrogation, the suspect reportedly told investigators that the organisers of the musical event had not consulted residents before holding the celebration, adding that the noise prevented him from sleeping.
“The suspect and one other person are currently in police custody while investigation is ongoing to unravel the circumstances behind the incident,” the police spokesman said.
The police command said investigations are continuing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the shooting.
