
The Imo State Police Command has launched a manhunt for a man accused of killing his wife inside a church in Owaelu, Owerri North Local Government Area.
The incident was discovered on Monday morning after neighbours, alarmed by the continuous cries of an infant, traced the sound to the church where the woman’s lifeless body was found.
The suspect reportedly fled the scene with two of their three children, leaving behind a suckling baby beside the deceased.

Confirming the development, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Henry Okoye, said officers from the Owerri North Divisional Headquarters have visited the scene and commenced efforts to arrest the suspect and rescue the missing children.
He added that the rescued infant has been handed over to a trusted family member, while investigations are ongoing. The identities of the victim and suspect have not yet been disclosed.
The police urged anyone with useful information on the suspect’s whereabouts to report to the nearest station as efforts intensify to bring him to justice and safely recover the children.
