
The Imo State Police Command has detained six of its officers following a viral video that captured the alleged assault of a young man in Ikeduru Local Government Area of the state.
The disturbing incident, which reportedly occurred in Nduhobokwe, Uzoagba community on Monday, sparked widespread outrage after footage surfaced online showing the victim being brutally beaten.
In the video, five officers were seen repeatedly striking the victim with long sticks, while another restrained him, leaving many Nigerians questioning the conduct and professionalism of law enforcement personnel.
Reacting swiftly, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Henry Okoye, confirmed that the officers involved have been identified and are currently under investigation.
According to the command, those implicated include Inspector Ugochukwu Ibe, Inspector Nwachi Chimezie, Sergeant Ugoezuhu Austin, Corporal Michael Obi, Corporal Ebuka Onwuegbu, and Corporal Amos Sunny.

The Commissioner of Police in Imo State, CP Audu Garba Bosso, has since ordered a comprehensive probe into the incident, directing that due disciplinary procedures be carried out in line with the regulations of the Nigeria Police Force.
“Following a prompt review, the officers have been taken into custody, and disciplinary processes have commenced to determine the full circumstances surrounding the misconduct,” the statement read.
The police command emphasized that the actions displayed in the video do not reflect the core values, ethics, and professional standards of the Nigeria Police Force.
Authorities have assured the public that the investigation will be transparent, and the outcome will be made public upon conclusion.
This development adds to growing concerns over police brutality and the urgent need for accountability within Nigeria’s security agencies.
