Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command have foiled a planned kidnapping attack in the Ejigbo area of Lagos State, killing four suspected kidnappers during a late-night gun duel and recovering arms and ammunition.
The operation, carried out by the Command’s Special Squad 1 at the Jakande Estate Gate on Sunday night, was launched after credible intelligence indicated that a notorious kidnapping syndicate was preparing to abduct a businessman in the area around 9:30 p.m.
According to police sources, the operatives were deployed following directives from the Commissioner of Police after intelligence confirmed the movement of the suspects.
The gang reportedly arrived at the location to execute the planned abduction but were intercepted by security operatives.
A fierce exchange of gunfire ensued when the suspects allegedly opened fire on the police team upon sighting them.
The operatives responded with superior firepower, resulting in the death of four suspects, while one gang member escaped with gunshot injuries.
Items recovered from the scene include an AK-47 rifle with two magazines containing live ammunition, a submachine gun, a Toyota Sienna vehicle, and other vehicles and keys suspected to have been used for criminal operations.

The police have identified the suspected gang leader as a man known as Ifeanyi, popularly called “Ifeko,” who is believed to have links to previous kidnapping operations in Lagos, including a gang reportedly neutralized during an earlier operation at Ladipo Market in 2024.
Authorities say efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspect and dismantle the remaining members of the syndicate.
In a separate development, suspected political thugs attacked the spokesperson of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Ogundipe Olukayode, popularly known as Omojomolo, in the Oshodi area of Lagos.

Police authorities have condemned the incident and launched an investigation to identify and arrest those responsible.
Authorities have urged residents to remain calm while assuring that security operations across Lagos will be intensified to curb rising cases of kidnapping and violent attacks.
