
A construction accident at the new Gombe State House of Assembly Complex has claimed the life of one worker and left seven others injured after a section of the building’s entrance canopy collapsed.
The incident occurred on Friday at the ongoing construction site, prompting the Gombe State Government to launch an immediate investigation into the cause of the collapse.
In a statement issued by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Works, Housing and Transportation, Danladi Adamu, the government confirmed that the collapsed structure was part of the cantilevered entrance canopy still under construction.
Five of the injured workers are currently receiving treatment at the Gombe State Specialist Hospital, while the remaining two are being treated at the Federal Teaching Hospital, Gombe. The state government also directed that all medical expenses for the injured workers be covered at its expense.

To determine the cause of the incident, the government instructed the Ministry of Works, Housing and Transportation, in collaboration with relevant emergency, regulatory and technical agencies, to commence a full investigation and carry out all necessary safety and accountability procedures.
The contractor handling the project and the supervising consultant have been directed to submit a formal incident report within 24 hours. They are also expected to provide a preliminary assessment, followed by a comprehensive technical report detailing the findings of the investigation and recommendations.
The Gombe State Government said the outcome of the investigation would guide its next course of action, reaffirming its commitment to upholding strict safety, quality and engineering standards in the execution of public infrastructure projects across the state.
