The Zamfara State Police Command has foiled an attack by suspected bandits targeting security personnel in Zurmi Local Government Area while also preventing a potential disaster caused by a suspected improvised explosive device along the Gurusu-Gwashi Road in Bukkuyum Local Government Area.
According to a statement issued by the command’s spokesperson, SP Yazid Abubakar, the incidents occurred on August 12, 2026.
Abubakar explained that police officers had been deployed to provide security during a tree-planting exercise at the Muslims’ praying ground along the Rukudawa Road in Zurmi when armed bandits launched an attack.
The security operatives reportedly took cover and engaged the attackers in a gun battle, forcing them to retreat into a nearby forest.
According to the police, evidence found at the scene, including bloodstains at the attackers’ position, suggested that some of the bandits sustained gunshot wounds during the exchange.
“The bandits were believed to have withdrawn with the bodies of their dead colleagues,” the statement said.
The police also confirmed that no security personnel or civilians were killed during the incident.
