Troops of the Joint Task Force North-West under Operation FANSAN YAMMA have successfully rescued 33 passengers who were abducted by terrorists in Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
The victims were reportedly kidnapped while travelling through the Magazu axis after gunmen ambushed a trailer conveying both passengers and goods. During the attack, the assailants opened fire, forcing the driver to lose control of the vehicle.
According to a statement by the Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force, Lt. Col. Aliyu Danja, troops swiftly responded to intelligence received about the incident and mobilised to the location.

Upon arrival, security operatives engaged the terrorists in a gun battle as they attempted to move the abducted victims to an unknown destination. The superior firepower of the troops forced the attackers to abandon the victims and flee into nearby bushes.
“All 33 abducted passengers were successfully rescued without any casualties,” the statement confirmed.
The troops have since launched follow-up operations to track down the fleeing criminals and prevent further attacks in the area.
This latest rescue comes weeks after security operatives freed 11 travellers who were abducted along the Gummi–Sokoto Road, highlighting ongoing efforts to curb banditry and secure major transportation routes across the North-West region.
Authorities have reiterated their commitment to protecting civilians and dismantling terrorist networks operating within the region.
