The Rivers State Police Command has arrested three suspects allegedly linked to the killing of two police officers during a stop-and-search operation in Aluu, Ikwerre Local Government Area of the state.
The attack occurred on June 29, 2026, when the officers were reportedly ambushed by armed assailants who opened fire on them before fleeing with their service AK-47 rifles.
Police spokesperson ASP Blessing Agabe said one of the officers suffered severe gunshot injuries that led to the amputation of a leg but later died while receiving treatment. The second officer also lost his life in the attack.
According to the command, the arrests followed a directive by the Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Adepoju, ordering an intensive investigation to identify those responsible, recover the stolen firearms and bring all those involved to justice.
The command said operatives of the Violence Crime Response Unit tracked the suspects to their hideout through intelligence gathering and sustained tactical operations before arresting them.

The suspects were identified as Maduabuchi Emeka, also known as “Doctor,” 34; Chinedu Owhor, 42; and Kamachi Joe, 28. Police said all three are from communities in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area of Rivers State, while one of them resides in Aluu.
Investigators disclosed that efforts are ongoing to apprehend a fourth member of the gang who remains at large.
Commissioner Adepoju commended the officers involved in the operation for their professionalism and determination, stating that the arrests demonstrate the command’s commitment to tracking down criminals and ensuring that those responsible for attacks on security personnel face justice.
