The Edo State Police Command has arrested nine suspects in connection with the alleged killings of two children, a community chief and a commercial driver in separate incidents across the state.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, ASP Eno Ikoedem, disclosed this in a statement made available to journalists in Benin City.
According to Ikoedem, operatives of the Jattu Division arrested a 23-year-old suspect, Omokhudu Innocent, over the alleged killing of two minors in Ayogwiri Community, Etsako West Local Government Area.
The victims were identified as seven-year-old Praise Aloye and six-year-old Oshone Ekhaesomhi.
The police said the bodies of the children were discovered after a report was received on August 31. Their remains were subsequently deposited at a mortuary while investigations into the circumstances surrounding their deaths continue at the State Criminal Investigation Department.
In another development, four suspects were arrested over the alleged murder of a community chief identified as Chief Saturday in Ajife Community, Ovia South-West Local Government Area.

The police also announced the arrest of four other suspects over the alleged killing of a driver in the Aduwawa area of Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area.
The incident reportedly followed a minor road accident at about 10:45 p.m. on September 2, in front of Drucicare Pharmacy in Benin City.
Police alleged that an argument broke out between the drivers after the accident, following which one of them, identified as Idugie Emmanuel, allegedly summoned friends to the scene.
The suspects allegedly assaulted the other driver, whose identity had not been established at the time of the report, leaving him unconscious.
He was taken to a hospital, where a doctor reportedly confirmed his death.
The police said the victim’s remains had been deposited at a mortuary for preservation and autopsy, while efforts were ongoing to identify him and locate his family.
The Edo State Police Command said investigations into all the cases are ongoing.
