A young girl who was reportedly sexually assaulted by three boys in Calabar, Cross River State, has allegedly been returned to the street where she was found, raising concerns about her safety and welfare.
The girl was said to have been discovered lying weak and helpless on a road in the Etta-Agbor Layout area of the city.
According to reports, some good Samaritans who came across her initially struggled to communicate with her because of her condition. They reportedly bought her bread and a soft drink, after which she regained enough strength to speak.
The girl allegedly told those who assisted her that three boys had sexually assaulted her.
She was subsequently taken to a hospital, where she reportedly received first aid and was given food.
However, concerns were raised after the girl was allegedly taken back to the same area where she had initially been found.

Those who expressed concern said returning the vulnerable victim to the street could expose her to further abuse and exploitation.
The circumstances surrounding why she was returned to the street remain unclear, while calls have been made for relevant authorities, child-protection agencies and other organisations to intervene and ensure that she is taken to a safe environment.
The incident has also renewed concerns about the safety and welfare of vulnerable children and young people living or spending time on the streets in Calabar.
