The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has uncovered a residential building in Lagos State where more than a100 sacks of empty alcoholic beverage bottles were allegedly stored for suspected use in producing counterfeit drinks.
The discovery was made by the agency’s Investigation and Enforcement Directorate at a building located at 322B Meiran Road, Agbado Oke-Odo, Lagos, following intelligence reports about activities at the premises.
According to the agency, the bottles, which included different sizes and brands of alcoholic beverages, were suspected to have been stockpiled for distribution to counterfeiters.
NAFDAC Assistant Director of Investigation and Enforcement, Kunle Ojo, said the bottles were found stacked and covered with tarpaulins inside the building.
Some of the bottles reportedly carried labels associated with alcoholic beverage brands, including Action Bitter and Royal Circle Premium Whiskey.

Ojo condemned the use of residential buildings for such activities, stressing that the agency remained committed to protecting public health and curbing the circulation of fake products.
He also urged Nigerians to report suspicious activities in their neighbourhoods to the nearest NAFDAC office to help authorities identify and prevent the production of counterfeit goods.
The discovery highlights ongoing concerns over the potential health risks posed by counterfeit alcoholic beverages and the need for increased public vigilance against the illegal trade.
