
The Osun State Police Command has arrested a man identified as Babangida Muhammed over an alleged attempt to kidnap a resident and demand ₦13 million in ransom.
Muhammed was reportedly arrested on September 4, 2026, by operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU), Team H, following a complaint from a man who said he received threatening phone calls from someone identifying himself as Muhammed.
According to the police, the caller allegedly threatened to kidnap the complainant and members of his family unless ₦13 million was paid.
Following intelligence gathering, the police arranged a meeting with the suspect at Telemu along the Iwo-Ibadan Road, where the complainant was instructed to bring the money.

When the suspect reportedly arrived and picked up the box containing the money, he allegedly attempted to escape into the bush. Police operatives, who had been positioned nearby, quickly moved in and arrested him.
The suspect remains in police custody as investigations continue to determine whether other individuals were involved. The police said he will be charged to court after the investigation is completed.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Zungura, commended the officers involved and urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities or threats to the police.
