The Niger State Police Command has arrested a 20-year-old man, identified as Tukur Bello, over an alleged attempt to kidnap two women during a midnight attack in Mokwa Local Government Area of the state.
The incident reportedly occurred on July 25, 2026, at Takuma Fulani Camp, where the two women were asleep when the suspect allegedly entered their residence.
According to the police spokesperson, SP Wasiu Abiodun, Bello was allegedly armed with a cutlass and threatened to abduct the women.
The women reportedly raised an alarm after noticing the intruder. During the incident, the suspect allegedly attacked one of them as she tried to call for help.
The victim sustained cuts on her hands before residents and local vigilantes responded to the distress call and apprehended the suspect.
Police said Bello was arrested with the cutlass allegedly used during the attack.

The case was initially reported at the Mokwa Divisional Police Headquarters before it was transferred to the Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the State Criminal Investigation Department in Minna on July 30 for further investigation.
The suspect remains in police custody and is being interrogated as investigations continue. Police said he would be charged to court after the investigation is concluded.
The command urged residents to remain alert and promptly report suspicious activities or threats to the appropriate security authorities.
