A suspected vandal has died after a transmission tower collapsed on him in Delta State, the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has disclosed.
The incident occurred along the 330kV Ughelli-Benin transmission line and was discovered by TCN linesmen during a routine patrol on Saturday.
According to the company, the patrol was launched after the transmission line tripped following an earth fault.
The maintenance team from the Delta Sub-Region traced the fault to Tower 101, where they discovered that the structure had collapsed.
A suspected vandal was found dead beneath the fallen tower, with his body trapped among the tower members.
Further inspection by the TCN team also revealed that Tower 101 on the adjacent Ughelli-Sapele 330kV transmission line had been extensively vandalised.

The company said the second tower remained standing at the time of the discovery.
TCN condemned the continued vandalism of electricity infrastructure, warning that such activities pose serious risks to lives and can disrupt power supply.
The company urged residents of host communities and members of the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities around power installations to security agencies or the nearest TCN office.
TCN stressed that protecting electricity infrastructure requires the collective effort of communities, security agencies and the general public.
