The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has apprehended an Edo State–based individual, Odigie Moses, over his alleged involvement in an online blackmail operation targeting a foreign victim.
According to an official statement released by the commission, the suspect was arrested in Ekpoma, Edo State, following an investigation into a case of financial exploitation and cyber-enabled coercion.
Preliminary findings indicate that the suspect allegedly posed online as a spiritual adviser offering solutions to personal challenges.
During interactions with the victim, he reportedly manipulated her into participating in a private session under false pretenses, which he secretly recorded.

Authorities say the suspect later used the recording to threaten the victim and demanded payment in exchange for keeping the material private. The victim reportedly transferred a total of $1,100 before the suspect was tracked and arrested.
The EFCC confirmed that investigations are ongoing and that the suspect will be formally charged in court upon conclusion of the inquiry.
The commission reiterated its warning to the public about engaging with unverified individuals online, especially those offering sensitive or personal services, urging caution to avoid falling victim to similar schemes.
