A Director of the Primary Health Care Centre (PHC), Oke-Adu, Ibadan, Dr. Adedoyin, has been accused of threatening a nurse who raised concerns about alleged bad practices at the health facility.
Sources said the incident happened during a phone call between the director and the nurse, who is among staff members said to have exposed issues at the centre.
According to the sources, the nurse had travelled to Abeokuta, Ogun State, for personal reasons when she received a call asking her to attend a meeting at the local government secretariat in Ibadan.
The nurse reportedly explained that she was not in Ibadan and would not be able to attend the meeting at the scheduled time. However, the director allegedly insisted that she must come, saying her presence was compulsory.
He was quoted as saying she must “find a way to come” and that she had “no option” but to attend the meeting, even after she explained that she was outside the state.

The exchange has caused concern among some health workers, who fear that staff members who speak out about issues in the facility may face pressure or intimidation while investigations are ongoing.
Meanwhile, the Ibadan North East Local Government has set up an investigative panel to look into allegations of workplace intimidation, victimisation, and alleged unsafe medical practices at the PHC.
In a letter dated June 1, 2026, the council invited a midwife, Akanbi Ayonike, to appear before the panel on June 2, 2026, at the office of the Head of Local Government Administration.
The letter asked the staff member to attend and cooperate fully with the investigation.
The controversy comes amid growing complaints about conditions at the Oke-Adu PHC, including reports of staff shortages, alleged use of unqualified personnel, and concerns about patient safety.
A nurses’ advocacy group, the Elegant Nurses Forum (ENF), had earlier raised alarm over the situation, calling for urgent action to improve primary healthcare services and protect both patients and health workers.
