Meanwhile, at BMO Field in Toronto, Canada earned a hard-fought 1-1 draw against Bosnia and Herzegovina in Group B. Bosnia took the lead in the 21st minute through Jovo Lukić and appeared on course for victory before Canadian substitute Cyle Larin rescued a point for the hosts with an equalizer in the 78th minute.
The result marked a significant milestone for Canada, ending their six-match losing streak at the FIFA World Cup and securing their first-ever point in the tournament.
The expanded 48-team competition continues on Saturday with Qatar taking on Switzerland, while Brazil will face Morocco later in the day as the race for World Cup glory gathers momentum.
