A tragic incident has unfolded in Bauchi State as a 30-year-old woman, Habse Ubale, was killed in a suspected witchcraft-related attack in Garin Malam Village, Gamawa Local Government Area.
The Bauchi State Police Command confirmed that the attack occurred in the early hours of July 28, 2026, following accusations that the victim was involved in witchcraft.
According to police reports, the prime suspect, identified as 35-year-old Garba Daudu, allegedly conspired with two others—Ya’u Garba and Musa—who are currently on the run. The suspects reportedly invaded the residence of Habse Ubale and her husband, Audu Sabo, and carried out a violent assault.
During the attack, the victim was reportedly struck with a machete, while her husband and two minors, aged 12 and 14, were beaten with sticks, leaving them with varying degrees of injuries.
Security operatives, alongside local hunters and vigilante members, swiftly responded to the distress call and transported the victims to the General Hospital in Gamawa. Unfortunately, Habse Ubale was confirmed dead by medical personnel, while one of the injured victims remains hospitalized.

The other two victims have since been treated and discharged.
The police have arrested one suspect in connection with the incident, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend the remaining suspects who fled the scene.
The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation and prosecution.
Reacting to the incident, the Commissioner of Police in Bauchi State, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, strongly condemned the attack, describing it as an act of jungle justice fueled by superstition.
He urged residents to refrain from taking the law into their hands and to report suspicious activities to security agencies.
The police also reassured the public of their commitment to ensuring justice is served and called on citizens to provide credible information that could aid in the arrest of the fleeing suspects.
