The wife and son of a former senior ISWAP commander have surrendered to troops of Operation HADIN KAI in Borno State, days after the ex-insurgent laid down his arms.
The woman, identified as 27-year-old Aisha Musa, reportedly surrendered alongside her 11-year-old son through Kusuma Village on July 29. Security sources said the pair voluntarily turned themselves in to troops of the 3 Battalion during ongoing counter-insurgency operations in the state.
Preliminary findings indicated that Aisha’s husband, who previously served as the finance chief of ISWAP in the Jubillaram enclave, had instructed his family to leave the insurgent camp if he successfully escaped.
The former ISWAP commander reportedly surrendered to the Nigerian military on July 25, prompting his wife and son to follow his directive and seek safety with government forces.

Military personnel carried out standard security screening on both individuals before transferring them to the custody of the 24 Task Force Brigade. They are expected to undergo further profiling and administrative procedures at the Headquarters of the 7 Division.
Security officials say the latest surrender reflects the increasing number of insurgents and their family members abandoning terrorist enclaves as sustained military operations continue to weaken Boko Haram and ISWAP strongholds across Nigeria’s North-East.
The military added that although the security situation in the theatre remains unpredictable, troops have continued offensive operations against terrorist groups while maintaining a high level of operational readiness.
