A disturbing incident has sparked public outrage after police officers were accused of pushing a motorist off a bridge in Lagos during a confrontation over an alleged traffic violation.
The incident reportedly occurred at the Odo Iya Alaro Link Bridge in the Maryland area, off Ojota.
According to eyewitness accounts and a viral video circulating online, the driver was stopped by officers for allegedly driving on the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) lane.
What began as a routine stop quickly escalated into a heated argument over penalties. Witnesses claim the situation turned violent, with the officers allegedly pushing the motorist off the bridge during the altercation.
In the widely shared video, a group of officers can be seen engaged in a tense exchange with several young men on the bridge.

Moments later, the alleged victim is shown lying on the ground below, surrounded by onlookers who appeared to be offering assistance.
A narrator in the footage alleged that such encounters are common in the area, accusing officials of harassing motorists and demanding hefty on-the-spot fines ranging from ₦50,000 to ₦100,000.
As of the time of this report, the identity and condition of the victim remain unconfirmed.
Authorities have yet to issue an official statement regarding the incident. Efforts to reach relevant agencies, including transport authorities and police representatives, were unsuccessful.
