
Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have successfully rescued five students of Gateway Polytechnic, Saapade, who were abducted by suspected kidnappers in the late hours of Sunday.
The incident, which occurred on April 27, 2026, triggered a swift and coordinated response from security agencies after a distress call was received by the Ipara Division around 10:55 pm.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, officers dispatched to the scene discovered an abandoned ash-coloured Toyota vehicle riddled with bullet holes and stained with blood.
Personal belongings, including mobile phones, were also recovered at the scene.
Further investigation led to the discovery of a student identity card, confirming that the victims were students of Gateway Polytechnic, prompting an immediate escalation into a full-scale rescue operation.
Acting on the directive of the Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, multiple tactical units including SWAT, Anti-Kidnapping Unit, Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU), Quick Response Squad (QRS), OP MESA, and operatives from the Isara Area Command were mobilised for an intelligence-driven mission.

Security operatives launched an intensive bush-combing and tracking operation across suspected escape routes, applying sustained pressure that led to the successful rescue of all five victims on April 28.
During the operation, the kidnappers engaged police in a gun duel but were overpowered by superior firepower, forcing them to flee with suspected gunshot wounds. No casualties were recorded among the security personnel.
The rescued students have since been taken for medical evaluation and are currently receiving care following the trauma experienced in captivity.
Commending the operatives, Commissioner Ojajuni praised their professionalism, bravery, and swift coordination, noting that the intelligence-led strategy played a critical role in the success of the mission.
He further assured residents that ongoing operations are underway to apprehend the fleeing suspects and bring them to justice.
